Pyrodex will often fail to fire in a flintlock. It has a higher ignition temperature than pure black. Some shooters start with a 5-10 grain load of real black powder and then some Pyrodex over that. Sounds like a lot of fussing and won't solve your problem. You will need real black powder to prime, for sure.

With the common double set double lever set triggers, the fly is needed to allow the hammer or cock to fall from a fully cocked position to the fired position without your finger holding the trigger back. To find out if your lock has a fly, take your unloaded gun and point it in a safe direction.They shoot most accuretly if the clearance is .003 or less. That's a pretty snug fit and can be pretty hard to load in a fouled bore. The original Minie' bullet to bore fit could be all over the map and it was usually rather loose so accuracy suffered and for the most part the military didn't care.

When I first got my Walker 4-5 years ago I found the loading lever would drop pretty regularly under recoil. Anther fella on a different board described a minor modification to the loading lever latch that solved the problem. My Walker is made by ASM and I found the latch piece did not have much spring to it like it should.

i have had to watch carefully the stain/finish i use for that reason. i have a Pedersoli that any mineral spirit, alcohol, or even some lubes will shed its stain just as yours is doing. try ballistol without water in an inconspicuous place. or wax it down with Rennaissance wax. carefully. even wax ma draw the stain.
